Heathkit SB-1000 HF Amplifier 10 to 160 Meters with Single Eimac 3-500Z Tube

This Heathkit SB-1000 HF Amplifier 10-160 Meters with Single Eimac 3-500Z Tube, is a great amplifier. It is basically the same as the time proven Ameritron AL-80A.

 Heathkit offered their version and it appears to have the same parts inside.

I tested this Amplifier and it appears to have good  output on all bands. I loaded it up to about 700 watts and saw no problems. the specs say it can take 100 watts of drive and I only drove it with around 60 to 70 watts.

 I did notice that somtimes when powered up, The K2 DPST 120V/240V power relay would make a humming noise and somtimes it will be very quiet. It will likely need to be replaced with another relay suitable. I found one on sale for $26.00 shipped but it looks like other  Potter/Brumfield relays will work. 

 The Amplifier does work as it is, but the relay may make some noise.

The front face and cabinet are in excellent condition. The plating on the rear panel is discolored and not rusted or corroded. 

this unit appears to have the original Eimac 3-500Z tube date code 1985 which is about the time this unit was sold.
