Description
This Ten-Tec 540 Triton II Transceiver is in Excellent Cosmetic Condition and Needs Work S/N 426
I Tested it on the air and found it transmitted (Key Down) and received very well.
I found the internal speaker does not work (it has excellent receive audio from the speaker jack on the rear panel.)
I also found that there is no microphone audio going in from the microphone jack.
As with most vintage gear it may be improved with an alignment.
The Elastic string in the dial cord has become weak so the dial pointer does not go to the lower half of the dial. This is the common thing and there is a great source for the elastic dial cord needed.
There is a link to a web site below that has the Dial String replsacement information and other service information.
Why "Triton" Name Was Dropped
From the Ten-Tec Reflector November 1, 1999
Ten-Tec was threatened with legal action from a major communications company over the use of the name "Triton" for radio equipment. Rather than have David fight Goliath, they changed the name of the radio from the model 544 Triton IV to the "Model 544" - the "Model 544" name plate on the front was used for approximately the last year of production of the model.
This radio is super clean and well worth putting some work into it.
This Radio as well as all the other many Ten-Tec items I have listed, are part of an estate I am selling for a friend who has been collecting only the finest Ten-Tec gear. He is selling his gear due to a planned move.
Due to the age of this transceiver, I am selling this radio as is, as described, for parts or repair, with no returns.
A good copy of the manual is included. It will require a hand microphone with a 1/4 inch stereo plug connector. Any Dynamic hand microphone appears to work well.
This one has the 6 pin Jones plug power connector. While not rare, I do not have an extra connector.
There are some matching power supplies I have listed with the correct power cord included. Please see my other listings.
There is a great web page with a lot of service information you can see at the link below:
