The "JX" variants (e.g., SP-600-JX-17, JX-21) include an optional Selectable Crystal Oscillator (or "JX" crystal control feature). This has six crystal sockets (using HC-6 type crystals) and a front-panel switch to select fixed-channel operation on up to six user-installed crystal frequencies (anywhere in ~0.75-54 MHz range). These are not standard—they were custom-installed per contract or user need (often for RTTY or fixed-channel military use), and the crystal frequency is calculated based on the desired receive frequency plus the IF offset (455 kHz for lower bands/single conversion, or 3.955 MHz for higher bands/dual conversion, sometimes divided by 3 or 4 for harmonic operation on high bands). Non-JX models lack this entirely and rely purely on the VFO for tuning.
