This Crystal for the RL Drake 4-Line, was purchased New when still available and was checked with a Crystal Tester. It was never used.

It is the larger type crystal found in most RL Drake Radios like the 2B, T4X-C, R4-C, TR-4, and others . new

A 20.8 MHz crystal (more precisely listed as 20.800 MHz in Drake documentation) in the R.L. Drake R-4C receiver provides coverage of the 30-meter amateur band segment from 10.1 to 10.6 MHz.This is an accessory/premix crystal installed in one of the rear XTAL sockets. When selected (via the XTALS switch in the appropriate position) and with the BAND switch set to the corresponding position (typically the 7.0 MHz / 40m position for many accessory ranges like this one), the receiver tunes across that 500 kHz range. From the R-4C manual's crystal frequency chart (Table 2-1):
  • A 20.8 MHz crystal corresponds to the 10.0–10.5 MHz or adjacent 500 kHz segment, but Drake specifically recommends the 20.800 MHz crystal for optimal performance on the 30m band (10.100–10.600 MHz), as noted in service discussions and user groups (e.g., DRAKE-RADIO archives).
The general formula for accessory crystals in the R-4C is:Crystal frequency ≈ desired band low edge + 5.645 MHz (the first IF offset), but the chart provides exact matches:
  • For example, 14.6 MHz crystal → 3.5–4.0 MHz (80m, supplied)
  • Higher crystals like 20.8 MHz align with the 10 MHz range.
This crystal is popular for adding 30m (WARC band) coverage to the R-4C, since the receiver did not originally include it (standard bands are 80/40/20/15/10m segments). The tuning dial reads directly in the 10.1–10.6 MHz range when this crystal is active. If your crystal is exactly 20.8 MHz (not a typo or variant like 20.1/20.6 for nearby segments), it covers 10.1–10.6 MHz (centered around 10.35 MHz effective). Performance is excellent on 30m with this choice, per Drake recommendations.
