Description
Swan VX-2 Vintage plug-in VOX Accessory For the 350, 500, & 600 Series Radios, in Excellent Condition
It is rare to find one of these Vox units let alone in this nice condition.
The Swan VX-2 is a vintage plug-in VOX (Voice-Operated Transmit) accessory made by Swan Electronics (Oceanside, CA) around 1968. It adds automatic voice-activated transmit capability to compatible Swan SSB transceivers—no need to manually press the PTT (push-to-talk) button on the microphone. You speak, and it keys the radio.Key Details
- Function: Audio-amplification-based VOX circuit for hands-free SSB operation. It senses your voice and switches the transceiver from receive to transmit.
- Design: Small chassis-style plug-in module (not a standalone box). It installs inside the transceiver via a dedicated accessory socket.
- Power: Draws power directly from the Swan transceiver (no separate supply needed in most cases).
- Condition notes: Many surviving units are 50+ years old. Some have “modified” versions with updated instructions for better performance. Test VOX gain, delay, and anti-trip settings if possible.

- Swan 500 / 500C / 500CX
- Early Swan 600T
- Other Swan tube transceivers in the same era that accept plug-in VOX units (e.g., many 500-series variants)
