Description
Model 299 Talking Counter is a self-contained frequency counter, speech synthesizer and audio amplifer/speaker system which enhances operating convenience and pleasure for the blind ham operating in the HF spectrum. It can be used with any HF transceiver, analogue or digital, or with any VHF transceiver with an appropriate prescaler. Also, it can be used with any signal generator below 22 MHz as a test instrument. When used with TEN-TEC transceivers employing 9 MHz I-F, special built-in presets allow proper megahertz readout of the operating frequency, even though the counter is reading VFO output.
Features
-
Synthesized speech readout of any rf voltage applied to the input between 1 MHz and 22 MHz. This includes the 10 meter band on TEN-TEC transceivers since the VFO operates below 22 MHz.
-
Choice of MHz and kHz format or only kHz portion for quick repeat cycle.
-
Choice of one-time or repeat cycling.
-
Count to four places after decimal (100 Hz). When used with analogue transceivers, Model 299 increases readout accuracy.
-
Self-contained audio amplifier and speaker. No need to tap into transceiver audio system.
-
Straight counter position disables all presets.
-
Only connection to transceiver is VFO output signal. (250 mV minimum)
-
Runs on 12 VDC.
-
Add-on accessory LED readout provides visual as well as audible output, converting unit to ordinary counter.
-
Speech tonal quality adjustable.
