Ten-Tec Model VO-1 Variable Frequency Oscillator (VFO) module First Amateur Radio Product Sold by Ten-Tec New in Box

This is arguably the most collectable Ten-Tec items.

I am selling this item for a friend who collected Ten-Tec gear for many years,

it is sold as is, as described and all sales of unbuilt kits are final.

Ten-Tec VO-1 (also labeled VO1) is a vintage Variable Frequency Oscillator (VFO) module from the late 1960s (circa 1968–1971), one of the four core plug-in modules in Ten-Tec's earliest QRP (low-power) modular kits and transceivers. It provided tunable frequency control for both receive and transmit in simple direct-conversion CW rigs, primarily on the 80m and 40m amateur bands (with crystal control on 15m via the companion TX-1 module in basic setups).Key Details and Specifications
  • Function: Variable oscillator (VFO) generating the local/tuning signal for mixing (receive) and transmit frequency generation.
  • Frequency Range: Tunable across 80m (3.5–4.0 MHz) and 40m (7.0–7.3 MHz) bands (exact coverage depended on bandswitching and crystals in the full rig).
  • Stability/Design: Basic solid-state VFO circuit (discrete transistors, varactor or air-variable tuning capacitor); flywheel tuning with slide-rule dial in assembled units.
  • Compatibility: Used in:
    • Power-Mite 1 (PM-1): Fully assembled transceiver with VO-1, TX-1 (crystal osc/PA), AA1 (audio amp), MX1 (mixer).
    • Power-Mite 2 (PM-2): Cased version (Version 1 used separate modules like VO-1; Version 2 consolidated to one board).
    • Power-Mite 3 (PM-3): Similar modular setup.
    • MR-1 Modular Kit: Four-module homebrew kit (VO-1 VFO, TX-1 transmitter, AA1 audio, MX1 mixer) for building a basic 80/40m CW QRP transceiver.
  • Era: Ten-Tec's inaugural product line (pre-Argonaut/Triton); focused on affordable, modular QRP for Novice-class operators.
  • Build: Small printed circuit board module (plug-in/wired); simple, rugged for hobbyist use; required 12V power (lantern battery or external supply).
This is a very early Ten-Tec component—extremely rare as a standalone module today.
