Description

Multiphase Central Electronics MM-1 RF Analyzer Station Monitor Scope in Excellent Condition

This MM-1 is in beautiful cosmetic condition.

I powered this one up and it has a nice focused trace on the CRT.

The control pots are a bit dirty from sitting for many years and will need to be cleaned.

I did not test it any farther than that as it would be prudent to replace ther HV electrolytic capacitors before they fail.

I will include a copy of the manual and service notes.

I am selling as is, as described for restoration or to use as it is.

The Multiphase MM-1 (also called the Central Electronics MM-1 RF Analyzer) is a rare, vintage 1957 ham radio monitor scope from Central Electronics, pioneers in single-sideband (SSB) technology. It is a compact, tube-based unit with a 3" CRT display designed specifically to monitor transmitter output in real time. Key features include:
  • Visualization of the RF envelope (waveform) to check for distortion, flat-topping, or overmodulation.
  • Trapezoid pattern display for analyzing AM, SSB, or other modulation quality (detects carrier shift, improper bias, etc.).
  • Innovative AF trapezoid mode that blanks the beam during receive—advanced for its era.
  • Ideal companion for Central Electronics Multiphase exciters/transmitters (e.g., 20A, 100V) but works with any rig via RF sampling.
  • Fully analog, tube-driven design; it often needs restoration (recapping, retubing, cleaning) due to age. Service notes, schematics (dated 11-1-56), and known fixes are available from the official Central Electronics archive.
It is a true “old buzzard” collector’s item prized by vintage ham operators for authentic station setups or troubleshooting classic gear. Units are uncommon and rarely appear outside swap meets or specialized classifieds.
