The Sencore TC-28 "The Hybrider" (also called Mighty Mite series) is a vintage solid-state tube and transistor/FET tester from around 1970, made by Sencore in Sioux Falls, SD.
It is a rugged, portable/service-grade instrument popular with technicians for testing a wide range of vacuum tubes (including many modern/guitar amp types like 6L6, EL34, 6550, and sweep tubes), transistors, FETs, and diodes. Key features include:
- Emission (cathode strength) test with multiple load settings.
- Highly sensitive grid leakage/emission test (one of its strongest points, detecting issues many other testers miss).
- Shorts detection (meter-based on TC-28 for better precision; uses lockout switches for accuracy).
- Life test (drops filament voltage to assess remaining life, especially useful for power tubes).
