Compatible Radios and UsesThis is a 500 kHz center frequency AM/wide bandpass mechanical filter, designed primarily as the AM filter (or optional wide filter) for the Collins 51S-1 general coverage receiver.

It provides wider bandwidth than standard SSB filters in the 51S-1 (which typically uses narrower mechanical filters for SSB/CW). It is also suitable for other Collins equipment or homebrew/vintage receivers needing a wide 500 kHz IF mechanical filter for AM broadcast or general coverage listening with good selectivity.

Specifications
  • Center Frequency: 500 kHz.

  • Bandwidth: 7.0 kHz nominal @ 6 dB; approximately 19.0 kHz @ 60 dB.

  • Type: Symmetrical bandpass mechanical filter (Y case style with flange).
  • Design: Multi-resonator (typically 8+ discs in Collins mechanical filters of this era), excellent shape factor with steep skirts compared to LC filters.
  • Other Characteristics (typical for this series): Low insertion loss (around 5-10 dB max), good passband flatness, high stability, carrier rejection suitable for AM. Case style Y (flanged).

This provides superior AM performance with reduced adjacent channel interference versus broader LC filters.
