Description

Hallicrafters SR-2000 Hurricane transceiver Band Switch in Excellent Condition Used

Hallicrafters SR-2000 "Hurricane" Band Switch is a multi-section rotary wafer band switch assembly used in the iconic Hallicrafters SR-2000 Hurricane transceiver.

Key Information & Data
  • Type: Large multi-wafer ceramic or phenolic rotary band switch (typically 5–6 positions for 80/40/20/15/10 meters, with multiple sections for RF, tank circuit, loading, etc.).
  • Function: Selects bands across 80–10 meters and routes RF signals through the transmitter final amplifier (pair of 8122 tubes) and receiver circuits.
  • Known Issues: Early production switches (Centralab/Oak) were prone to arcing under high power (2 kW PEP input). Hallicrafters issued a factory recall/modification with double-gap wafers on the final amplifier section. This one appears to be spaced apart with sufficient space.
  • Condition Note: Yours is used but in excellent condition — good original switches are scarce.

This band switch is specific to the Hallicrafters SR-2000 Hurricane (1965–late 1960s), a high-power desktop HF transceiver capable of 2 kW PEP SSB / ~1 kW CW input. It was one of the most powerful factory transceivers of its era. It pairs with the P-2000 power supply and optional HA-20 external VFO.
