A copy of the manual is included.
Heathkit GD-1B Grid Dip Meter (also called Grid-Dip Oscillator or GDO).
This is a classic vintage vacuum-tube test instrument from the 1950s, popular with amateur radio operators, experimenters, and service technicians. It functions primarily as a grid dip meter for finding resonant frequencies of tuned circuits (coils, antennas, traps, filters, etc.), but also serves as an absorption wavemeter, signal generator/marker, and (with headphones) oscillator-detector for zero-beat measurements.
Key Specifications
- Frequency Range: 2–250 MHz continuous using the five supplied plug-in coils. Optional low-frequency coil set extends coverage down to ~350 kHz (up to ~2 MHz).
- Circuit: Colpitts oscillator using a 6AF4 or 6T4 high-frequency triode.
- Meter: 500 µA movement with variable sensitivity control.
- Power: Transformer-operated, 117 V AC 50/60 Hz, ~5 W (selenium rectifier).
- Physical: Compact handheld design (~7" long × 2.5" wide × 3.25" deep) for one-handed operation. Plug-in coils with dial scales (spares included for custom calibration). Phone jack for headphones.
