Heathkit SBA-300-3 (6-Meter) & SBA-300-4 (2-Meter) VHF Converters with Interconnecting Cable.
 
 
These are factory-designed VHF converters for the Heathkit SB-300 and SB-301 (and compatible) HF receivers. They mount externally on the rear of the receiver cabinet and allow reception of the 6-meter (50 MHz) and 2-meter (144 MHz) amateur bands by converting signals down to the receiver’s 28–30 MHz tuning range. The front-panel converter switch on the SB-300/301 selects HF, VHF-1, or VHF-2 operation, automatically routing power and signals.

  • SBA-300-3 (6m): Covers 50–52 MHz (supplied crystal); other segments possible with crystal change (e.g., 48–54 MHz range). Sensitivity typically <0.1 µV. Noise figure <5 dB. Uses 6DJ8 cascode RF amp + 6EA8 oscillator/mixer.
  • SBA-300-4 (2m): Covers 144–146 MHz (supplied crystal); other segments up to 142–150 MHz. Sensitivity typically <0.2 µV. Noise figure <7 dB. Uses 6DJ8 cascode RF amp + 6EA8 (with tripler for oscillator).
  • Output: Both output to 28–30 MHz IF.
  • Power: ~130 VDC @ 12.5 mA and 6.3 VAC @ 815 mA (supplied by receiver when selected).
  • Size (each): ~2⅝" W × 5¾" L × 3¾" H. Lightweight open-frame chassis with tube shields.
  • Connections: Octal plug/socket for daisy-chaining (cable included), RCA RF in/out. Antenna relay recommended for transmit use.
