Description
National Select-O-Jet Model SAF-1 Vintage Audio Selectivity Accessory For the NC-125, NC-183, etc. RARE!
This Rare accessory is in very good condition. The front is pretty clean, the top has some marks from normal use. I have not used this with a receiver but they are pretty simple.
The cable is intact and appears to have the correct plug.
I am selling it as is as described.
National SAF-1 Select-O-Jet Audio Filter – Very Good Condition, UntestedRare original National Select-O-Jet (SAF-1) tunable audio filter! This 1950s accessory was designed to enhance selectivity on National receivers (NC-125, NC-183 series, etc.) by providing adjustable audio boost or nulling to reduce interference.Very good cosmetic condition. Untested – perfect for the restorer or collector completing a vintage National station.A cool piece of ham radio history!
The National Select-O-Jet (model SAF-1) is a vintage audio selectivity accessory produced by National Company in the 1950s. It was designed as an add-on for National receivers (such as the NC-125, NC-183, etc.) and other communications gear to provide tunable audio peaking (boost) or nulling (notch) for improved CW and voice reception in the presence of interference.
Key Information
- Function: Tunable audio filter (peaking or rejection) using a bridged-T or similar circuit. It helps pull weak signals out of noise or QRM by emphasizing or attenuating specific audio frequencies.
- Controls: Typically includes a frequency tuning knob and a mode/width switch (boost/null).
- Connection: Plugs into the receiver's audio output; powered from the receiver or separate supply.
- Era: Mid-1950s accessory for the National "Select-O-Jet" system.
Compatible National Receivers (Primary List)It was officially promoted for use with the following National models:
- NC-125 — Most common pairing; the Select-O-Jet was heavily advertised with this receiver.
- NC-183 and NC-183D
- NC-173
- NC-109
- NC-88
- NC-57 (and similar earlier models)
- It functions as an outboard audio filter (peaking or notch), so it is not receiver-specific in a strict electrical sense.
- Best results are achieved with National receivers that have the matching accessory socket for easy integration.
- Many owners also used it successfully with Drake, Collins, and other vintage gear.
