Description

Philips JAN 5U4GB Vintage 1981 Date Code Rectifier Tube NOS in Box Tested / Guaranteed

This Tube and all others I sell, have been tested on a B&K Dyna-Quik Model 700 Dynamic Mutual Conductance Tube Tester and tests at or close to a NOS full Emission /Tube.

genuine NOS Philips (often Philips/ECG) JAN 5U4GB rectifier tubes in original boxes, dated 10/81 (October 1981). JAN = Joint Army-Navy military specification, indicating high-quality, rugged USA-made construction for reliability in demanding applications.

Key Details
  • 5U4GB: Improved full-wave rectifier (higher voltage/current ratings and controlled heater characteristics vs. earlier 5U4G). The short/straight-sided envelope makes it an excellent fit for the Collins 516F-2 power supply (typically as the low-voltage B+ rectifier in the V2 position).

  • Date Code 10/81: Late production but still true NOS (New Old Stock) military-grade tube. Philips/ECG continued JAN-spec production into the early 1980s in the USA. These are robust black-plate or similar designs known for longevity and stable performance.

  • Philips JAN Advantage: Military-spec build quality often preferred for Collins gear and hi-fi/guitar amps due to tight tolerances and durability.
These are reliable drop-ins for Collins 516F-2 restorations, providing proper voltage drop and sag characteristics that solid-state replacements often lack.
