The RL Drake QRXer (also called QX-er or QXer, Model 583) was designed for receivers with a 455 kHz IF.⁠Puck.nether

It works with the Drake 2-series receivers (2-A, 2-B, and 2-C). These use a 455 kHz intermediate frequency stage (as part of their multi-conversion design), and the QRXer is the earlier standalone Q-multiplier that preceded the matching 2-AQ / 2-BQ / 2-CQ speaker + Q-multiplier units made specifically for them. Collectors and historical listings commonly pair or note it with the 2-B in particular.⁠Antiqueradios

It is not compatible with:

• The Drake 1-A (different IF scheme, roughly 2.9–3.5 MHz tunable IF).
• The later Drake 4-line receivers (R-4 / R-4A / R-4B / R-4C series and related gear), which do not use a 455 kHz IF in the same way.

The unit is a general two-terminal Q-multiplier that shunts across an IF transformer. In principle it can be adapted to many non-Drake receivers that also use a 455 kHz IF (a common frequency in that era), but it was produced and marketed in the context of early Drake amateur receivers. Some examples exist for other IFs (e.g., 262 kHz), but the standard Model 583 version is the 455 kHz one.

The QRXer (also styled QX-er or QXer) is an early R.L. Drake external Q-multiplier (Model 583) intended primarily for 455 kHz IF receivers. It provides selectable notch/boost/peak modes with tuning controls and is noted as relatively scarce compared with later matching units such as the 2-AQ, 2-BQ, and 2-CQ (which combine speaker + Q-multiplier functions for the 2-series receivers).

Drake external Q-multiplier accessory is designed for 455 kHz IF receivers and offers selectable notch, boost, and peak modes with tuning controls for improved selectivity and heterodyne rejection. Ideal for collectors of classic Drake amateur radio gear, boatanchor receivers, and early Drake accessories. Cosmetics are very good with the unit appearing complete. A scarce find for restoring or completing vintage Drake station setups. Sold as-is, untested.
