Zap Trapper Electronic Gas Tube Lightning / Voltage Surge Protector, Receive Only New, Unused

  • Type: Gas discharge tube (GDT) surge protector / lightning arrestor
  • Key Warning: RECEIVE ONLY — DO NOT TRANSMIT. Designed specifically for receiving antennas (shortwave, scanner, SWL, etc.). Not rated for transmitting equipment.
  • Connectors: PL-259 (UHF male) on the input (antenna side) with a short flexible pigtail to SO-239 (UHF female) on the radio side, plus a grounding stud/screw for connection to a good earth ground.
  • Function: Quickly shunts damaging high-voltage transients and static buildup from lightning or atmospheric events to ground, protecting sensitive receiver front-ends. Known for a relatively low firing threshold compared to many other arrestors of its era.
This was a popular accessory in the 1980s–2000s for shortwave listeners and scanner enthusiasts, often bundled with antennas like the Eavesdropper series from the same company.
