Speaker Information & SpecsThe Realistic 40-1272D is a vintage 10-inch full-range/dual-cone speaker driver from Radio Shack’s Realistic line (made in Thailand, 11A4 batch code, likely early 1980s). These were popular, affordable drivers used in extension speakers, floor-standing systems, and custom builds.Typical Specs (for 40-1272 / 40-1272D series):
- Size: 10-inch (25.4 cm).
- Impedance: 8 ohms.
- Power Handling: 15–20 watts RMS / 30–50 watts peak (conservative rating for the era).
- Sensitivity: Approx. 90–93 dB (1W/1m) — good efficiency for a full-range driver.
- Frequency Response: Roughly 60–70 Hz – 15–18 kHz (solid bass for a single driver, extended highs via whizzer cone).
- Magnet: Ceramic.
- Construction: Paper cone, cloth surround (common on these), dual-cone design for better high-frequency dispersion, stamped steel frame.
Cabinet: Custom solid Oak 10-inch enclosure. Oak adds beautiful grain, durability, and acoustic warmth with low resonance. Much nicer than typical particleboard cabinets of the era — highly desirable for vintage and custom audio fans.
