Description
A&A Engineering MikeMaster vintage ham radio microphone preamplifier / processor Wired for Yaesu
The A&A Engineering MikeMaster (or Mikemaster) is a vintage ham radio microphone preamplifier/processor with adjustable gain, limiting/compression, rotation point, and noise gating. It was designed to improve transmitted audio quality, reduce background noise, and boost weak microphone signals—especially useful for older dynamic mics or low-output setups with rigs like Yaesu transceivers.
It was featured in the March 1998 issue of QST magazine (project article by W6FR, pages 33-36). A&A Engineering (Anaheim, CA) sold it as a kit (~$70) or assembled & tested unit (~$90 in the late 1990s), pre-wired for popular brands including Yaesu, ICOM, and Kenwood.
