Description
Kenwood T-599 Vintage Ham Radio Transmitter in Excellent Cosmetic Condition in Original Box
This transmitter is complete. It has sat unused for at least 20 years. I powered it up slowly with a variac and it did so fine with no obvious problems.
I briefly checked the bias and HV on the meter and they looked good. I did not test it an farther than that.
The main Electrolytic capacitors look to be original and should be replaced before putting it into service. I does power up okay as it is.
It is likely it will need some attention as most of the T-599s do.
This one is in Collector Quality cosmetic condition and well worth the time to restore. It has the original paint and finish and looks beautiful.
The Transmitter is in the original shipping box and there is a copy of the manual is included.
I am selling it as is, as described.
- Good overall cosmetic condition with clean front panel, minimal wear, and all original knobs/covers intact.
- Non-working — it blows the main fuse immediately when powered on. The most likely cause is a shorted main electrolytic filter capacitor in the power supply (a common failure on these vintage units after 50+ years). No other major damage noted.
- Sold strictly as-is / for repair or parts. Ideal project for a ham radio restorer or technician.
- Frequency Coverage: 80 through 10 meters (3.5–29.7 MHz, amateur bands).
- Modes: SSB (USB/LSB), CW, AM.
- Power Output: Approximately 200 watts PEP on SSB, 160 watts DC on CW, 80 watts DC on AM (varies slightly by band and version; lower on 10m).
- Final Amplifier: Two S2001 tubes (equivalent to 6146 series) with a 12BY7 driver tube.
- Features: Built-in power supply (selectable AC voltages), VFO, ALC (Automatic Level Control), break-in CW with sidetone, smooth tuning, transceive capability with matching R-599 receiver via interconnect cable.
- Design: Hybrid (mostly solid-state with tube final); sturdy mechanical construction with hinged top cover for easy access.
- Dimensions/Weight: Similar to the R-599 (approx. 10.6" W × 5.5" H × 12.2" D; 27 lbs).
