Description
RCA Radiotron 811 Vacuum Tube Y5 date code (1971) Used, full Emission
I tested this tube in an Ameritron 811 Amplifier and it is full emission.
This is the only RCA 811 I have and there are several other brands in my listings.
The RCA 811 (non-A version) is a predecessor to the 811A. While they look similar, the 811 has a lower plate dissipation rating (approx. 40-55 watts vs. 65 watts for the 811A). Finding one New in Box (NIB) with a 1971 date code (Y5) is rare, as most production had shifted entirely to the "A" version by then.
Technical & Historical Info
- The "Y5" Code: Confirms a 1971 manufacturing date. This is late-era production for a non-A 811, making it a "clean" example of the design.
- RF Performance: Since it tests as new, it is highly desirable for vintage transmitters like the Collins 30K or early Gates broadcast equipment.
- Compatibility: While an 811A can usually replace an 811, an 811 cannot always safely replace an 811A in high-power modern amps because it handles less heat. Collectors specifically seek the "non-A" for authentic restorations.
